Chocolate,wine and tea lovers rejoice: they can improve brain performance Things are looking up according to researchers at Oxford’s Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics and Norway.  They examined the relation between cognitive performance and the intake of  chocolate, wine, or tea and found that those of us who partake in these three consumables had significantly better mean test scores and lower prevalence of poor cognitive performance than those who did not.

Wine, chocolate, and tea all contain a substance called flavonoids, a micronutrients found in plant-derived foods. Their role in age-related cognitive decline is being increasingly studied, and the new research suggests that flavonoids can ward off the onset of dementia. The researchers, who reported their findings in the Journal of Nutrition, caution that evidence linking flavonoids to brain performance was not conclusive, and more work was needed  to ensure other things inside the foods were not the true culprit.

That said, let us all enjoy these wonderful nutrients in moderation and improve our chances of living a full and wonderful life.
